Gravity Bone is a freeware first-person adventure video game developed by Blendo Games, and released on August 28, 2008. The game employs a modified version of id Software's id Tech 2 engine—originally used for Quake 2—and incorporates music from films by director Wong Kar-wai, which were originally performed by Xavier Cugat. Four incarnations of the game were produced during its one-year development; the first featured more common first-person shooter elements than the released version. Subsequent versions shifted in a new direction, with the inclusion of more spy-oriented gameplay.

Gravity Bone received critical acclaim from video game journalists. It was called "a pleasure to experience" by Charles Onyett from IGN, and received comparisons to games such as Team Fortress 2 and Portal. The game was praised for its cohesive story, atmosphere and its ability to catch the player's interest over a very short time span without feeling rushed or incomplete. It received the "Best Arthouse Game" award in Game Tunnel's Special Awards of 2008. A sequel, Thirty Flights of Loving, was released in 2012.

Gameplay Edit

Gravity Bone uses an interface with no heads-up display and provides all objectives and guidance through interactions with objects and environments.
Gravity Bone is a first-person adventure video game that lasts around 20 minutes, and is set in the fictional city of Nuevos Aires. The player controls an unnamed spy, and is tasked with accomplishing several missions across the game's two stages.[1] At the end of the game, the player-controlled spy is killed by an unknown woman after chasing her through the last half of the second level. The game was designed to leave the player without a clear idea of how the game's story evolves.[2]

During these missions, objectives and guidance are provided through the player's interactions with objects and environments in the game. The tutorial system used to demonstrate routine gameplay elements such as object interaction and movement is disguised as the first level of Gravity Bone. Here, the player is tasked with the delivery of a contaminated drink to an unspecified non-player character. After the first level is completed, the player is sent to the second level of the game, which follows the pattern of the first;[3] the player is assigned a set of actions and goals involving platforming sequences.[

Gameplay Edit

Happy Wars is a multiplayer online game, defined as a role-playing strategy game, although it also has a short story-driven single player campaign mode.[5] The multiplayer mode consists of two teams of up to 15 players attempting to destroy the other team's castle while also defending their own.[6]

As of September 3, 2014, it was Gold account online only, But due to recent updates, the game now accepts regular [Xbox Live] members as well.

The players choose from one of three classes: the warrior, the mage, and the cleric. There are also subclasses, although the only ones implemented at the moment are the Warrior-type Berserker, the Mage-type Zephyr, and the Cleric-type Engineer. Each class has a base attack and other unique abilities that are available as the player gains new levels.[7] Each class also has a unique "Team Skill", where players can gather teammates together to allow the casting player to use more powerful skills. The more players that aid in the use of the team skill, the more powerful the ability becomes.[8]

The game also has items that can be purchased either through playing the game[6] or through microtransactions that allow in-game items to be purchased with Microsoft Points.[9] There are items in Happy Wars that can only be purchased with Microsoft Points. They are usually powerful items that can allow players to get a head start in the game.[7] The developers have announced plans to release new maps and items "every 1-2 months".[3]

Happy Wars has received mixed reviews from critics. It has an aggregate score of 63.75% on GameRankings and 61/100 on Metacritic.[10][11] IGN cited lack of players as a concern with the game and that "Happy Wars went too far in the direction of accessibility with its few classes, lack of distinctive weaponry, and simple game modes."[13] Official Xbox Magazine compared the game to Awesomenauts, but noted that players who pay for additional content appear to have an advantage over other players.[1
